Dublin TOEFL Course

The TOEFL is a Test of English as a Foreign Language. We have classes at Learn English in Dublinto help you prepare for this test, and make sure that you pass!

It measures the ability of non-native English speakers to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and heard in academic settings.

The score you get in the TOEFL exam will be used by government and scholarship agencies, admissions offices, administrators of licensing and certification agencies and people who want to study at English colleges or universities.

The sections of the TOEFL test are:

Reading

3-5 long passages with questions about the passages. The passages are similar to material that can be found in an undergraduate university textbook.

Students answer questions about main ideas, details, inferences, sentence restatements, sentence insertion, vocabulary, function and overall ideas of the passages.

Listening

The listening section consists of six long passages and questions about the passages.

They consist of two student conversations and four academic lectures or discussions.

Students must determine main ideas, details, function, stance, inferences, and overall organization of the passages.

Speaking

The speaking section consists of six tasks, two independent tasks and four integrated tasks.

In the independent tasks, students must answer opinion questions about an aspect of academic life.

In the integrated reading, listening, and speaking tasks, students must read a passage, listen to a passage, and speak about how the ideas in the passages are related.

In the integrated listening and speaking tasks, students must listen to long passages and then summarize and give their opinions on the information in the passages.

Students must communicate information, explain ideas, and defend opinions clearly, coherently, and accurately.

Writing

The Writing Section consists of one integrated task and one independent task.

In the integrated task, students must read an academic passage, listen to an academic passage, and write about how the ideas in the two passages are related.

In the independent task, students must write a personal essay.

After you have passed the test, you will receive a TOEFL certificate to state that you have mastered the use of English in an academic setting. You can then start trying to find a job in the academic sector that you chose.
